Altman Easy Latch Kit for 1947-54 Chevrolet Pickups

The success of the Altman Easy Latch Kit has been tremendous. There was a time when the kit was made for the Ford F-100 as a contribution to the F-100 community. A few years and countless sales later
we have kits that cover 1940-56 Ford Pickups and a kit for the 1955-59 Task Force Chevrolet Pickups. For those not familiar, the Altman Easy Latch kit is the only bolt-on bear claw latch kit for vehicles that were not fortunate enough to benefit from the advances of the bear claw latch. The kit allows you to install bear claw latches on your ride without sacrificing your exterior handles, interior handles, or exterior locks. When we were at the NSRA Nationals in Louisville, KY this year we were pleased at the response the kits received. The most requested kits though were for Chevrolet Pickups within the years 1947-1954. We were already in the process of designing this kit so we felt pretty confident that we would have a kit for these models by late October.


Here it is the end of September and we are well on our way to meeting the October goal. We are still receiving phone calls about the availability of the kit so I thought I would keep our customers updated on the progress. The one snag that we ran into came in the form of the exterior handles. Since Chevrolet made an exterior handle change (rotation style to push button style) midway between 1947 and 1954 we realized we would have to essentially make 2 separate kits. We have now reached the point in the process where we needed a donor vehicle to start test fitting the new latch kit. That's where this beauty comes in:

Now we have a truck and the test fitting has begun. As you can see in the second picture we have already began cutting into the door to see what kind of clearance issues we are going to have. Right off the bat things are looking up as Chevrolet made this truck with a serviceable window track. This will aid in the installation of the latch kit as you will be able to remove the track during installation and replace it once the new bear claw latch assembly is in.
